Florida CCHR Chapter to Honor Purple Heart Recipients with Special Event

The Florida chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is organizing a special event to commemorate Purple Heart Day on August 2nd at the historic Fort Harrison in downtown Clearwater. This event is designed to honor individuals who have been awarded the Purple Heart Medal for their service, with families of recipients also encouraged to attend. The evening will begin with a reception at 5pm, followed by a banquet at 5:30pm, which will include a formal presentation by the Tampa area U.S. Marine Color Guard.

The Purple Heart Medal, established by George Washington in 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, is the oldest military award still presented to U.S. service personnel. It recognizes those who have been wounded or killed in action. The August 2nd event not only serves as a tribute to these brave individuals but also aims to highlight the unique challenges faced by veterans.
